However, if you need to make use of various newer features available in Office 2007, you will have to convert older Office documents to Office 2007 format. The feature to covert older Office documents to Office 2007 format is very useful. For example, you can now utilize 1.1 million rows in the 2007 version of Excel. In the older versions you could only use sixty-five thousand rows. The method to convert older Office documents to Office 2007 format is the same for all applications. Password to modify the document:

If it is applied then you have to give the correct password to modify the workbook. Otherwise your workbook is opened but you cannot modify the workbook. It means that your workbook becomes read-only.

To apply a password to MS Excel document, follow the given steps:

First click on "Tools" menu and select the "Option" from drop down menu.

A windows dialog box will appear, here select the "Security" tab.Enter first password in "Password to open" text box under "File encryption settings for this workbook" section and second password in "Password to modify" text box (if required) under" File sharing settings for the workbook" section then click "Ok" button of dialog box.

Show and use the Shortcuts keys in Word 2007

In Word 2007, most of the shortcut keys are same from the earlier versions such as Word 2000 and Word 2003. But the interesting thing in Word 2007 is that, Microsoft provides a new look or system for these shortcuts keys. In earlier Word versions, you must be memorized to use the shortcuts keys such as (CTRL + B" to make letters bold and "CTRL + I" to make letters italic). But now do not require planned memorization in latest Word 2007 version. There is a fast, simple, and visual way to find out what you need to press.
Now by pressing the "ALT" button and many options or keyboard shortcuts (containing letters or numbers) will be appear on top of the toolbar buttons.
You will see here, For Example:
Alt-F = Office Button
Alt-1 = Save
Alt-2 = Undo
Alt-3 = Redo
Alt-H = Home
Alt-N = Insert tab
Alt-P = Page Layout tab
Alt-S = References tab
Alt-M = Mailings tab
Alt-R =Review tab
Alt-V =View tab
Alt-L = Developer tab

Now if you want to view the shortcuts keys for any other individual tabs. For example if you go to the Insert tab by pressing ALT-N only, then you will be able to see the extra shortcuts keys available.

Here Now if you press a letter listed below small image it will be like pushing that button. For Example
V = to set cover page
NP = insert new blank page
B = Page break
T = Insert table
P = Insert picture
F= Insert Clip Art
SH = Insert shapes
C = Chart

Make Word 2007 always save in 2003 format

Not everyone has updated to the 2007 edition of Microsoft Office. So a problem arises as we send them a Word 2007 document without converting it into 2003 format. However, it is possible to make Word 2007 always save in 2003 format. By changing a few settings, we can make Word 2007 always save in 2003 format automatically. This can save our time as we won’t have to convert a document each time we have to send one. Follow these steps to make Word 2007 always save in 2003 format:
1.     Open Word 2007.
2.     Click on the Office button.

     3.     Click on the Word Options button at the bottom.

      4.     The Word Options dialog box will appear.

5.     Select the Save tab.
6.     Select “Word 97-2003 Document” from the menu of “Save files in this format”.

7.     Click on the OK button.
After this you will never have to worry about mistakenly sending the incorrect format of Microsoft Word 2007 to anyone. The same procedure can be used to change the settings of Microsoft Excel 2007.

Secure a Wireless Network from Hackers

The reason we secure a wireless network is to stop people from using the services of our network who don't have permission to utilize them. It is harder to secure a wireless network from hackers as compared to a classic wired network. This is due to the fact that a wireless network can be accessed anywhere inside the range of its antenna.
In order to secure a wireless network from hackers, we should take proper steps to save ourselves against security issues. If you don't secure a wireless network from hackers, you might end up without its service. The consequence might also include the utilization of our network to attack further networks. To secure a wireless network from hackers, you should follow these simple wireless networking tips:
1.       Strategic antenna placement:
The first thing you have to do is to position the access point's antenna in a place which restricts the range of its signal to go further than the required area. You should not put the antenna close to a window because glass can't obstruct its signals. Place it in a central location of the building.
2.    Use WEP:
WEP stands for Wireless encryption protocol.  It's a customary technique for encrypting traffic on a wireless network. You should never skip it as that will allow hackers to get instant access to the traffic over a wireless network.
3.       Change the SSID, disable the broadcast of SSID:
SSID stands for service set identifier.  It is the recognition thread utilized by the wireless access point due to which the customers are capable of starting connections. For every wireless access point arranged, select an exclusive as well as unique SSID. Also, if it's attainable, hold back the broadcast of the SSID out over the antenna. It won\t appear in the listing of offered networks, while being able to provide services as usual.
4.       Disable DHCP:
By doing this, the hackers will have to decode the TCP/IP parameters, subnet mask as well as the IP address in order to hack your wireless network.
5.       Disable or modify SNMP settings:
Change the private as well as public community settings of SNMP. You can also just disable it. Otherwise the hackers will be able to utilize SNMP to get significant info regarding your wireless network.
6.       Utilize access lists:

      For additional security of your wireless network, and if your access point support this feature, employ an access list. An access list lets us determine precisely which machinery is permitted to attach to an access point. The access points which include the access list can employ trivial file transfer protocol (TFTP) now and then in order to download modernized lists to steer clear of hackers.

Open Source Software: Top Sites

This time we've made a list of top open source Web sites.

Of course, literally thousands of sites and forums provide news and information about open source software. To narrow things done, we focused on sites that provide a lot of links of open source applications – the top places to download open source software.

These sites fall into several categories. The "project hosting" category includes giants like SourceForge that provide server space for open source code and allow downloads. The "directories" category includes sites that have created lists of open source projects and update those lists regularly, but that don't actually host the code themselves.

Sites that made a list of great open source software at some point in time but that don't update those lists on an ongoing basis are in the "best of open source lists" category. In the "collections" category, you'll find projects that have rolled a large number of open source projects into a single download. Because these sites also contain links to the individual applications they contain, they provide an excellent resource for finding good open source software.

And finally, sites that didn't fall neatly into one of these categories landed in the "miscellaneous" group at the end.

Project Hosting Sites

1. SourceForge

The "mother lode" for open source projects, SourceForge hosts nearly 280,000 projects (at last count). It serves more than 2 million downloads a day and includes apps and tools in a wide variety of categories.

2. GitHub

GitHub hosts both public and private projects that use the open source Git version control system. This "social coding" site currently hosts more than 1.7 million repositories, including many open source projects.

Safety tips for using Wi-Fi

If you have a laptop computer with wireless connectivity, you can access the Internet using Wi-Fi, or wireless networks, often in public places such as coffee shops, airports, hotels, and other spaces.
Here are four quick tips to enjoy the convenience of public Wi-Fi and help to protect your privacy.

1. Use a firewall

If your computer uses Windows Vista or Windows XP and you've installed Service Pack 2, you have a built-in firewall that's turned on by default.
You can configure Windows Firewall to provide better protection when you're using a public wireless network.

2. Hide your files

When you use public Wi-Fi, network encryption is often out of your control.
Check the privacy statement on the network's Web site to learn about the type of encryption they use. (If they don't have a privacy statement, you'd be better off not using the network.)
If you keep personal or financial information on your computer, consider investing in an operating system, such as Windows Vista, that includes the tools to protect your information through encryption.

In this article let us review some awesome Gmail tips and tricks that will help you to manage your emails effectively.

1. Attachment Alerter: Never Forget an Attachment

“Oops, I forgot the attachment in my previous email. Here it is” — I’m sure you would’ve either sent an email with this message to somebody  (or) received an email with this message from somebody.  When you are sending emails in a hurry you may forget to send attachments. It will look unprofessional when you are sending a very important business related email and forgot the attachment.
The cure is Gmail’s Attach Alerter. If you have the word ‘attach’ in the mail content, and did not attach anything, you will be alerted by Gmail before sending that email.  To enable this feature, do the following.
